“Blood Lake” in Texas. Water levels in the reservoir receded, which, mixed with the warm weather, helped lower oxygen levels. The low oxygen levels prompted a fish kill and spurred the growth of bacteria called Chromatiaceae, which thrive in such conditions. Vancouver, Tuesday 7 May 1907
The earliest known film footage of Vancouver was shot by Seattelite William Harbeck by bolting a motion picture camera to the front of a streetcar. The film was lost until a copy turned up in Australia in the 1990s. In 2007, the Vancouver Historical Society produced a DVD of Harbeck’s footage, along with historical commentary and footage of the same route taken 100 years later.
Harbeck’s last project was filming the maiden voyage of RMS Titanic. He and his mistress both went down with the ship.
